EQAO Provincial Assessment
The Greater Essex County District School Board is
pleased to announce the results of the Education Quality
and Accountability Office (EQAO) provincial assessments
for 2009-2010.
The GECDSB assessment results show an increase in achievement
over last year’s results in Grade 3 writing, Grade
6 reading, Grade 6 writing, and Grade 9 academic and applied
math. Grade 3 reading results remained the same. A decrease
in math scores was seen in both Grades 3 and 6; prompting
constructive conversations and strategic planning of improvement
strategies.
The Greater Essex County District School Board continues
to demonstrate progress since the initial administration
of the EQAO assessments. Percentage growth over a five-year
period shows continued progress in most areas, with noticeable
growth over time in Grade 6 reading and Grade 9 mathematics.
The number of Grade 6 students who achieved level 3 or 4
in reading increased by 11% over five years. The number of
Grade 9 students enrolled in academic math classes who achieved
level 3 or 4 in mathematics increased by 8% over five years.
The Greater Essex County District School Board maintains
a high priority on supports for literacy and numeracy improvement.
Schools will continue to use EQAO assessment data, along
with other indicators, factors and classroom-based assessment
results, to refine their plans for school improvement. Our
data tells us there are successes to celebrate and areas
where we can and should improve. Ensuring that all students
have the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful
is our highest priority.
