Construction is Complete. The school is Open!
While the school is being built around the theme of Heritage, preserving its fine exterior and a number of beautiful interior features . . . all of the building systems are being completely upgraded to today’s standards for newly constructed schools

PRESERVING AND RESTORING

The Greater Essex County District School Board will be preserving and restoring the entire exterior facade of this early 20th century school, located on a major thoroughfare in Windsor, Ontario.

  • the central lobby with its finely carved decorative beams, ornate glass & wood foyer doors, plaster arches and marble wainscot and floors
  • a classroom restored its original condition, with a window from the front lobby and hallway - an artifact linking the school to the educational past of the community
  • a gymnasium with carved ceiling beams and a beautiful stone proscenium framing the wooden stage
  • restoration of a second floor room immediately above the lobby, featuring a small wooden stage and ornate skylight.

ADDING NEW HERITAGE FEATURES
Along with the preserved heritage features, some new elements will be added to the building.

  • museum artifacts will be exhibited in display cabinets built into the walls outside of each classroom
  • two large, walk-in exhibit spaces will be created, one on the main floor and the other on the second floor, in order to showcase larger artifacts and displays
  • one of the staircases will be designed to honour the contribution of our citizens to the defense of our country, featuring three large-scale historical replica aircraft - a Lancaster bomber, along with Hurricane and Spitfire fighter planes
  • large ‘tintype’ historical photographs featuring events and early images of our community, including one showing the school shortly after its opening in 1927, will be located throughout the building
