PR: 2008/2009:199 - Review of Homework Policy, Regulations and Administrative Procedures

The Education Committee of the Greater Essex County District School Board approved a homework policy, and accompanying regulations and administrative procedures in October 2000. In response to inquiries and comments that some Trustees had recently received from parents about the implementation of the policy across our system, the administration has been asked to:

a. investigate current research about the assignment of homework for elementary and secondary school students;
b. review the homework policies from some other Boards;
c. gather input about the policy, regulations and administrative procedures and their implementation;
d. prepare a report, including any proposed revisions to the Board's homework policy and regulations for consideration by the Education Committee, and update the administrative procedures if appropriate.

As a result, some minor revisions to the existing policy, and the accompanying regulations and administrative procedures, have been made.

Please:
1. invite staff, parents/guardians and students (as appropriate) to provide input about this draft by Monday, May 25 by completing a simple online survey.
2. provide the specific link below, i.e. teachers, parents/guardians or students to each group.

Please note: We have not offered a paper copy of this survey to reduce the amount of paper used in the review process.
